four year tb test, who is effected

Post by SteveM »

Have our four year tb test on tuesday.

From memory last time i think it only applies to females and breeding bulls, so our steers wont be tested.

Is this still correct

We had to test all cattle, except for very young calves. However the rules may be different in Scotland.

Always remember that whilst homebred heifers do not need to be tested at a 4 yr test any purchased heifers, regardless of age do if they are either for heifer replacement or if they will be sold on the open market ie other than direct for slaughter. The new SAM programme which DEFRA expect vets to use will pick these up when the vet enters the test details after the second day - we have had to go back to three farms recently to pick up missed purchased heifers, blasted nuisance for both farmer and vet.

first part of TB test over, breeding females and bulls 2 years old an over.

Far easier with a holding pen to run them into, then just lead back to sheds after testing, and everyone being halter trained helps too.

Fingers crossed for 2nd visit on thursday.
