Good job the very nice, positive Vendor FW Cook did not stay at home this year!
You will always get the odd couple of bidders carried away at auctions hence 4,900 gns.

Would it be better supported if there was a fat stock sale?

Having not gone to the sale due to other commitments but with only 4 bulling heifers forward and a bull I am sure alot of people who would normally have come didnt bother as travelling isn't cheap. We can't always expect great prices at Melton and there is now a lot more sales of cattle around the country now, we have Worcester, Carlisle, Chelford and York over a space of a few weeks also people are also selling privately to coincide with TB testing.

The 40 cattle sold at Melton yesterday were from £100 -190 with a cow and calf mking 265 the bull I was told made 445 all I believe were sold- did anybody go?

Forgot there is Stirling as well probably more down south, we have had Skipton, Shrewsbury,Beeston and others all selling Dexters recently as well

It could also have something to do with the demand for Traditional Hereford genetics from South America and elsewhere recently.

I think the people that bought it were new to the breed.
