What's the going rate for finished steers/heifers?
What's the going rate for finished steers/heifers?
Just wondering what everyone is getting per kg? I paid £3.25 deadweight for a steer this time last year, but imagine it'll be a bit more this time.
Re: What's the going rate for finished steers/heifers?
don't know dexter price but last week dwp was £3.90 on a R4L it has dropped a bit we were up to £4.10.
Are you only wanting dexter/cross.

Ideally Dexter, but crosses would be OK. The main problem I'm finding is a shortage of grassfed. Only wanting heifers if they're guaranteed not to be in calf, too. We've got a few home reared grassfed Jerseys to plug the Dexter gap for now.

We've just been paid for end of May delivery to butcher, £3.85 ungraded, but they would have been R4 or thereabouts.

We are getting just over £4 a kilo ungraded [but paying slaughter fees]. Farmers Guardian reported last week that native breeds - Hereford cross - are fetching £4.55 a kilo.
