Hi Margaret,

A handsome devil that's for sure. I really love his shape but it's his face as well, that I really like.

Margaret why isn't he in the herdbook??

Hi Vicki, well spotted!
He isn't in the herd book yet, but his tail feathers have been recently sent to UniQ, and he will be registered before he is 3yo.
We have many dollars worth of registrations for whom we have no descendants so now we register as late as possible.
For a bull that's after he has proven he can produce the goods. He sired this 10 month old black heifer, also 2 black & 1 dun steer on his trial run.

Anna, Kingshill Gullasch is Danish herd book number DDA0007. He may have been collected specifically for Australia, I don't know.

Clive, no he isn't polled. We disbudded him with a gas disbudder when he was 7 days old. No, we don't have a rear shot although I did try to get one. He is quite protective of that end of his anatomy, just follows me around in circles. I will get one sometime when I have help to distract him.

VERY nice cows Margaret.

Good straight top lines, the udders that I can see look excellent, as do legs and feet, no sloping rumps. They are also in good condition - what more can I say!!! Lovely herd.

That is interesting - I was well aware that Beryl re used names and I thought there had been a previous Woodmagic Dolphin but knew nothing about him. Her last ever bull born at Bunksland was Dolphin, as far as I know he is still there with the few that are left.

Hi Clive, dam of Shootlands Peony is Shootlands Penstemmon. Don't know why the double 'm' in that word though.
There is no extension to that breeding on line, but I do have it somewhere if anybody needs it.

Snowdrop, name doesnt suit her, very much a lead cow. 1week old calf

Blossom, first calved heifer, just look at the milk she has. one of the first females to carry my Nithsdale herd prefix and calve.

Just wonderful to see other herds, and lovely cows living their normal lives. We went to the National here last month but of course we only see the best of those herds, and cattle that have been prepared for months.

Being so isolated we never get to see other herds of any size. Great, keep them coming. I'll never get any work done though, too busy looking up their breeding on-line.

Hi Margaret,

I always stick my head or nose :laugh: in the herdbook, I think it should reflect everything about an animal so people can make informed decisions.

I've just sent off for DNA for our latest two heifers, one 7 months (which is earlier than I usually do) and the other two weeks (has a PHA mother) fingers crossed the calf isn't PHA if so we'll treat as a steer if not she goes from F1 to Foxglove. :D

Lovely herd Dom, do you have problems with the horns and the non horned cattle? Our two first girls have horns and they're a pain to the other, we're looking to tip them very soon.

Nice cattle and photos dom. My little black dexter bull met my Angus over (or in the dexter's case, through) the gate recently and is seemed that there was such a huge difference in size that they would not think about fighting (no horns on the dexter).

Have you ever tried putting them together and what happened?
