I am hoping to spend some time this winter on doing some halter work with my group of Dexters. Can onyone offer any advice on the first steps? Also what experience have people had with halter training older cows?
The feedback on this site is proving very informative.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Bridgehouse, what I think you need first is a strong halter and a firm post to tie them to. Put them in the crush (for the older cows) to fit the halter and wrap it around something before you let them out. It takes several goes before you can lead them and then it is best done in a fairly confined space :D . Youngsters will normally come quicker and are easier to handle. Then with your yougsters all halter trained the rest of your stock will be a breeze Good luck let us know how you get on.
