As you will be fully aware as an expert, minutes of private meetings cannot be published verbatim because they could put the society and its trustees at risk, in breach of their duties of care, outside company law and/or the charities act. I could give numerous examples but I would hope that you already realise what I am talking about? The clause that gives the rights of members to view everything, including personal info, is not the clause that the Charity Commission approved. It has been amended, without their approval and printed in the little book. I have spoken at length on 3 separate occasions to them about this clause and each time they read the riot act to me stating precisely what I have just said to you.
Your comments to Sylvia are disgusting.

Oh dear, as usual you seem to have missed the point. It was you who gave us full chapter and verse of why you have such relevant experience to comment on this situation because of your qualifications and employment. And despite this chose not to. Which suggests to me arrogance. I was merely commenting that having an 'important' job didn't make others arrogant so why should you be.
It is fatuous, misleading and not a little insulting to suggest that people with full-time, 'heavyweight' jobs can fit in running a farm around them by getting up earlier, many are up and out travelling by your 5.30am start. Which is why I wondered how you managed it. I was not implying that you are not looking after your animals properly, I was suggesting someone else was doing the work which you have confirmed is the case as you have help from your brothers.
I have no intention of continuing to swop insults with you. I shall not post again on this subject. I think the other members of this board have probably got the measure of you by now.

Just to say I am sorry I failed to attend the meeting, traveling 540 mile round trip to Stoneleigh with dieso at nearly £1.30 a litre down here in Cornwall and a loss of a days silaging income I chose not to represent myself. but I must ask, if reading previous steering committee minutes, we paid and an advisor £1000 to look at the Constitution, and his advice was to put each amendment through individualy, why was this ignored? I would have supported some and been against others( had I been There). No wonder the fees will have to rise if the committee is so frivolous at expending Society funds.
I support all of JUSTMALCS mailings, and have been smilling to myself seeing the same names repeating themselves again and again when any adverse comment is made about the steering committee.
If fees have to rise, perhaps we should look into where the expenditure has been made over the recent months and see what justificatiion there has been.
Before anyone jumps down my throat, ask the REAL questions of your committee and see if YOU can can get justifiable answers, as I cannot.

This is terribly sad.
I have only been a member for the burning of a candle and won’t pretend that I understand the issues here.
However, is it not possible that the “old” council members did their best and deserve credit for getting some things right?
Also that the steering committee have been doing their best and deserve credit for getting some things right?
Why does this have to be a game with two teams on two sides, we all own Dexters don’t we and should be on the Dexters side?!

It's a pity that the cost of deisel didn't put Mr. Hobbs off travelling to Stoneleigh when the Society were paying for it!!
If, as Mr. Hobbs states, he has asked questions of the steering committee how much did it cost the Society to answer his requests??
In my opinion the Steering Committee have worked tirelessly and selflessly over the last few months and if I were them I would bring the AGM forward to August and let the new council take over (if anyone offers). Certainly if I were a member of the Steering Committee I would want to get the hell out of there.
Another thing Mr. Hobbs as it was stated that you proposed that the whole of Council to resign - it was a good job we had a loyal band of people i.e. the Steering Committee who would take up the helm.
At the end of the day it is obvious that most of the people that voted against the proposals were voting against the Steering Committee regardless of the well being of the Society. This rather highlights why we needed the Steering Committee. Their only crime was that they bothered to care.
The big question now is "WILL ANYONE ELSE CARE ABOUT THE SOCIETY OR DO THEY JUST WANT THEIR EGO'S MASSAGING OR THEIR EXPENSES PAID?"
The Steering Committee should remember that you can always lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink - don't beat yourselves up about it - you have done- and are doing - a fantastic job.

As I said not long before one of the usual would have a go, Sorry NEW BOY I did not recommend the whole coucil to resign,Quote: Felicity Thompson, xxxx the Council was dysfunctional and should resign on masse or get voted off at an AGM! Quote:Ken Hobbs said that if everyone agreed to resign en massse he was quite happy to do the same
Still you have not answered my request on the £1000 expenditure or do you not know either.

Thank you, and everyone else, for your fantastic support - it is very much appreciated and uplifting.
The Steering Committee has only one thing in mind and that being for the benefit of the Society. It is so nice to read all your postings - we are not out of the woods yet, but hopefully by the AGM things will look much brighter.
Once again, thank you to all who are supporting the Steering Committee.

As we can see from some of the posts the good of the Society was not upermost in some peoples minds at the EGM. Its a pity that the past has to taint the future. I believe the vote at the EGM will do more damage to the Society than most have considered.
More than one post has said that a change of breed is now on the cards for them, more will follow and how many have to do this before there is a financial crisis.
I would like to thank those that have suported us both at the EGM and on these pages, but please do not get personal as our detractors will always be there and it makes finding common ground harder to find.
In reply to New Boy, yes it will be a relief for me when the AGM gets here and the results of elections can be announced, if anyone can be bothered to stand of course.

All I asked was why did the steering committee not adhere to the advice given by the professional as stated in the minutes where each change listed could be voted on? for this I the reply gets very personal, I respect Mark for this website, and now he can see why I do not forward many comments on the site,

Ken, please be honourable enough to put a full quote on this website not a part one which has a different meaning:-From the open Forum minutes 1-11-08 which have been published should read:-full quote
Felicity Thompson SUMMED UP THE SITUATION THAT THE MEMBERS FELT the council were dysfunctional and should resign en masse.
This has a complete different reading and meaning to what you were trying to imply. I find that underhand and deceiptfull.
Disgracefull conduct for a trustee of the society, as you were.

The reason the lawyers advised a single vote was to keep costs down as they were requested to do, otherwise if bits and pieces were voted on, it would mean re-drafting the whole set of Articles and could get quite complex and expensive. The overall cost of the new Articles pales into insignificance when compared to the cost of old-style council meetings. Having said that, old style meetings would still be required, but not so many.

Having attended the EGM on Saturday, I can see from the postings on this site, that I was not alone in my disappointment that the Steering Committee's proposals were defeated, by so few, when clearly approved of by the majority.
Our sincere & personal thanks go to all the Steering Committee for stepping into the breach when the previous council resigned, thereby allowing the 'normal' running of the society to continue in what was an extremely serious situation. They, & theirs advisors, deserve our gratitude for trying to 'drag' the DCS into the 21st century & Saturday's results must have been a real 'kick in the teeth' for all their selfless time & efforts.
I, for one would appreciate a constitution in layman's terms that is concise & easy to understand!! In addition I believe a proxy voting system would have resulted in an entirely different result.
Our thanks again to all involved & PLEASE don't give up on the DCS, it MUST move forward if it is to survive as a breed society. DCS members MUST put personal differences behind them, & think only of the breed, our wonderful characterful cows & their niche product come first - remember that.
