Had a calf born early Saturday morning. He seemed ok but took a while to get to his feet and drink and I noticed that the whites of his eyes were bloodshot. I have never seen this before and wondered whether the birth (during the night) may have been traumatic. Anybody any ideas? (big bull calf out of a 9 year old long leg cow)
He is fine now, especially as the rain has eased back to torrential!

This could well be the pressure of the birth. If so it should be gone in a few days, a week at most, and the calf should be going on as expected.

We had a bull calf a few years back and, guess what, we called him Red Eyes. The red eyes became normal - can't remember how long it took - he grew up fine and went on to the freezer to be enjoyed by many.
