I am ridiculously chuffed, over the moon etc!

At very long last I have bought some dexters.

Ok not that many, an older but beautiful dun cow with a black bull calf at foot, that will hopefully also be in calf and a very nice black yearling heifer. Do you reckon that constitutes a herd?

As I am going away for a couple of weeks I won't take delivery until well into August - I can't wait. :D

Stephanie

P.S. If someone would be kind enough to tell me in idiot proof terms how to put a photo on I could show off my purchases! :;):

Congratulations, we all will be looking forward to a blow by blow account of the forming moments of the herd. Definitely a herd.

Sorry I am not too good at putting photos on, have tried a few times and failed so I am hoping someone gives on line idiot proof instructions.

Well done Saffy, i must say you have done lots of research and took your time. From your post it could read that you are expecting the bull calf to be in calf!!!!!! Have you missed the basics.
Did you buy off this site?

Hi Duncan,

It is a good job you are looking forward to a blow by blow account of my "forming herd" because you are definately going to get one!

Anna, I have been smiling constantly for days now see :D :D

Mark, er um, could have put that better, cow will hopefully be in calf and has a bull calf at foot. I didn't actually buy cattle that were in "Dexter Cattle For Sale" section but someone contacted me from the advert I put in your wanted section and I bought from her herd. So my purchase WAS a direct result of this site. Thankyou.

:)

In your post while editing, do you see the url for your image? Is it sandwiched between two "IMGs in brackets? " Copy the URL in your reply so I can see it. It should look like this (but sandwiched between "IMG" in brackets"

The problem you have is that the http:// is automatically entered by the system when you have pasted your photo, so you need to delete the first http://

http://http//i196.photobucket.com/album ... CT0288.jpg

to become:

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa24 ... CT0288.jpg

which should work, as you've found.

When I went down to Devon, via Herefordshire, we saw a field of Dexters in the little bit of Wales we passed through- just happened to have the herdbook in the van; it was like Dexter-trainspotting! :D

Perhaps "Dexter Spotting" will catch on, do we have to get thier eartag numbers to score?

Have you thought of a points system? I think there should be extra points for a bull!

Oh dear I Dexter spot all the time. I'm with you Steph very small herd but loads of enthusiasm. Your girls are beautiful, I hate to tell you I'm in mental torment with one of mine who is teasing me about calving. She keeps showing all the signs then doesn't calve.... Aggh, I've had a feel and it seems ok but....
Anyway enjoy all of it Ido have 2 lovely calves running round (despite the wet) and it is WORTH IT.
