Back on track
I was gearing up to sell some of my Dexters earlier in the year when we had one inconclusive TB result. This knocked us right off course. I'm pleased to say she was OK on her first re-test. So we now have about 10 cows, most with calves at foot (from £375) and also about 15 steers of various ages (if the price is right) and a few little heifers. These will appear on the for sale list as soon as I find time to put them there, but thought I'd give you all advance notice. Delivery can be arranged at £1.40 per mile + vat.
Val, as the saying goes 'a picture paints a thousand words' we had a discussion about this quite a while ago. I believe you would get a better response with a decent picture. When I bought my bull two years ago I only got in touch with people that had a picture posted on the site. I have learned my lesson after traveling 70 miles to veiw a trailer that was not as discribed and a picture would have told me that. A brief discription on this or any other medium would rarely be enough to tempt any one to travel any real distance. I know you can phone, but you want to sell your animals and will do your best to get me to veiw so your description could be misleading or worse. Digital camera's are so cheap now, so take a load of pictures and get Mark to post a few with your adds, I'm sure you'll get a better reaction if your animals are ok.
Martin.

Well, I will be taking pics before mine are submitted but my personal request is that a PRICE should be required for every animal on there. If this was the case, particularly with pic too, it would be so easy to judge what is the correct price to put on animals being submitted. It would also provide an overall picture of what Dexters are worth. Why p.o.a.? or no price. Does it depend on whether the seller likes you or not, or will decide what sort of mug they are dealing with if they meet you. Or if you drive up in something flash, or ramshackle? maybe some of the no pricers will come clean on this.

Good point, Sylvia. When I asked someone earlier this year how much she was selling her rams for, she said "the going rate"! :p People are funny when it comes to pricing and we all want to get a fair price, but just what is the "going rate"? I guess it often just boils down to what you want to pay and how bad the seller wants to sell the animal.
Kathy who didn't buy any rams this spring and now they are all gone to the butcher

I've tried looking at these adverts, but all I'm getting is the message: Error 404, The Page Cannot Be Found...
I agree with the price & picture points; if I am looking at an online ad I expect to find a picture. If there is anyone selling in my local area but they don't have access to a digital camera, I'd hapily take my camera along- perhaps other Dexter breeders out there would do the same?

Hi JohnC and Rob, just found your posts, which ads are you stuggling with. Sometimes the Freeola server goes down during the day for short periods but you should not be having any problems.
I do rely on feedback from users, just send an email to me, as some people have done.
As for pics, i have been short on time and some of the very latest ads did have pics but i havent added them yet, i thought it best to get the ads on first. I must say again, people do send photos but i decline to add them to the ads for the sellers best interests.
Anyone can contact me on info@dextercattleforsale.co.uk . I try to answer them as soon as possible, but a do get a lot of enquiries from the public for advice, sales etc, plus strange requests from abroad now the ban has been lifted. Anyone fancy a delivery of dexters to Italy?

Will be photographing this week if the person who came to see them today does not buy mind you they maybe minus their ears as I am not a good photographer!................I am very honest as I have had people try and pull the wool so to speak and I too have a few years ago travelled 130 mile round trip with a landie full of kids to look at a trailer that was not at all as described! I have been a smallholder for 25 years so like to think I know a little bit!
I think its not at all nice not to give the asking price up front if you ask too much they wont sell photo or not!

I can understand some peoples reluctance not to put prices on the for sale list, however I would have to be very intrested in an animal if it did not have a price on it, before I made an enquiry.
However jo publice does not alway take into account that an animals costing £500 may be of much higher quality than one at £300 and I have had people visiting who have tried to knock me down on price because they have seen one on the web site for £200 forgetting that they may have to travel 200 miles and not like the animal when they see it.
Been there, got the teashirt despite being assured the animal met my critia, if a picture had been available it would have saved me a lot of time and money.
Price can somtimes reflect the location to, and this is not always taken into account, however its very rare you see anything advertised in a paper with out a price.
