I have been on the Genus web page but can't seem to find any way of becoming a member or finding out who to go to, to find out. Once again I ask for help.

Hi again.
Did you try the Genus phone number on my other reply? Another Genus number is 01270 616622 or 0870 1622000. All the Genus numbers will be office hours only.
An independant Ai service that covers Somerset try 01749 830683. Independants are generally cheaper for service but handling charges can be higher.

Ref A.I. & Genus

This should be of intrest to anyone who uses A.I. as I assume they will all be coming up with the same rules.

Anyone who uses A.I. will have to have secure holding facilities for the inseminator to A.I. the cow, this means either a cattle crush or a stall where your cow can be securely tie either with a head lock or cattle chain or collar and also a gate which does not restrict the operator but stops the cow from swing about.

I have a system set up which is quite easy to use and it is a gates attached to a post which can be pulled across and secured to a chain on the other wall which fits onto the gate and is level with the underneath or the cows bum.

However before you use a system like this your cow needs to be use to being tie up. All my cows are halter trained so half the battle it won, however as I work full time if I need to use the A.I. I have to leave them tie up so I have a cow chain on a sliding bar so they can either stand or lie dowm.

I hope this is of some help to anyone compepalting useing A.I who does not have a crush.

If you want more details do e-mail me direct.
