It would be intresting to know if anyone with bulls on A.I. ask for feed back on calvings as I have also experience problems with a short legged cow and A.I.

As the cow was quite old, the jury is still out regarding the problems experienced, however I think when using A.I. on heifers it might be a good idea to ask the owner of the semen, details about the size of the bull and his dam and sire.

If you use commenrcial semen it is always possible to ask for a bull with an easy calving record, and with the T.B regulations which are going to apply to some area's it is possible that the demand for semen may increase so it should become more vialbel to try and gather some statistics.

What problem did you have on AI and do you recall the bull used.
Not that I think AI could increase the chance of a problem although
better record keeping should be possible.

Ref the bull I used, as the calf was deformed I would prefer not to suggest that in this case the bull may have contributed to the problem, we would have had to do a cesar as the calf’s head was far to big and misshaped, and unfortuetly over the period of gestation the cow had developed severe arthritis, so we decided as she was 15 just to put her down, so I don’t know if the calf was a bulldog although I doubt it as the bull was a non short.
