We now have a herd of 28 dexters and the subject of insurance has come up - what do other small herd owners do with regard to insurance, both stock and third party liability - is it something that the DCS have contacts with or if not and we are all going our merry way is it something the DCS can get collective cover for cheaper and we all pay the DCS a commission to arrange the cover which hopefully can keep the DCS charges down. Maybe if the DCS acted as abroker they could get the commission paid by the insurance company

If you are looking to insure the stock, it's probably not worth doing unless you have a single animal which is worth a lot of money.

Third party insurance can be arranged by a local broker, try the NFU. Most people don't realise that NFU staff are paid almost entirely by the insurance premiums they collect, and if you look them up in yellow pages - guess where you will find them!
