Mark, tell us something about the new photo you have put up on the website. Are those Hawian leighs (help, spelling!) around the necks of the animals? Has it been that hot of a summer in the UK or is it just a passing fad?

Hi Kathy,
the photo was taken at the Royal Show this year, it shows a very enthusiastic bunch of young dexter keepers that showed at the Royal and entered the said Dexter heifers into a exhibition of breeds put forward in the showring on the last day for the public to judge. The kids decided to put the flowers round their necks and enter on behalf of the breed, as you can imagine it created a stir but was taken in good spirit by the other serious breeds, the Angus, or was it Highlands went into the ring with the handlers wearing kilts. It wasnt a regular showclass and the Dexters got good publicity.
Also it might be worth mentioning that the Dexters won the Dairy tidy lines competition at the Royal judged on tidyness, presentation and breed promotion. The Holsteins and Jerseys were well beaten.

Well done, Dexter folks! Glad to here that they were kids and heifers in that picture else a person would think that the Dexter is getting a bit short in the UK. :p Anyways, great to see kids having fun at a show

We had a fantastic time at the Royal this year. The children in the photo' were the ones who kept the lines clean and helped us win the "tidy lines". They are a great bunch and we all love them to bits!
