Steer prices

Post by Hillside Ben »

Just interested to know what people think are reasonable prices for well grown steers born spring 2014 and 2015?
We have some for sale at the moment. I had a phone call yesterday where someone asked the prices and when I told them, replied, "What each?" before hanging up. I don't think I'm overcharging, if they don't sell, the older ones will be starting to go into boxes in 6-8 months. But as there are no others for sale at the mo it's difficult to know where a fair price would be.

Thanks in advance for anyone's input.

Might be more informative if you told us what you asked for Ben. I bought some pure dexters a few months ago at 1.75 a Kg since I had definite outlets for them and wanted them. I offered 1.50 a Kg for a mixed bag of pure and crossed steers to another seller a few months later and got turned down.

At 1.50 a KG and with 6-8 months still to go I would take more steers - they will wash their face at that but over 1.75 it becomes questionable for me at least as to wheher they will leave anything behind when they go

Cheers
