My bulletin has arrived, nice to see it is quite thick with lots of pics...and I got a small mention thanks Sue....and not in the obituaries....always a relief.....

Do you think in the afterlife we'll still be able to post on here?

I haven't got time to read it at the moment, but I'm hoping to get through it before I shuffle off this mortal coil, but I'm not guaranteeing anything by the thickness of it!

I'm also hoping to make it to January so I can see the results of my first Dexter calendar...

Please don't criticise the bulletin.
I can remember how poor it was sometimes in days gone by.
Chris Sparrow, the editor, works very long hours putting it together for no payment whatsoever.
She works on a purely voluntary basis and we don't want to lose her.
If there is not enough content in the bulletin it is the fault of us members - not Chris's. I am as guilty as the rest of you.
So get writing and put some articles in it.
Thank you Chris for doing a sterling job and thank you to all the other members who give their time freely to keep our society going

Yes, my bulletin arrived and once again I was dismayed to read on page 4 the reference to the refusal to publish the minutes of the Council meetings on the advice of three independent solicitors. It makes me wonder why a prestigious organisation such as the Tate http://www.tate.org.uk/about/who-we-are ... ng-minutes does not have access to the same legal advice as the DCS? At the end of the day the majority of the membership are 'hobby' farmers and provided they are only accessible through the members section of the web site I cannot see the harm. It is all about managing risk - how many times in the past has the DCS been involved in litigation through the minutes since it was founded?

Like Rob R I too was puzzled by the exhortation not to criticise the Bulletin. Fear of criticism and fear of openness are of course symptomatic of the illness which pervades our Society, the desire to control all at all cost and to risk no discussions or debates which might challenge those who pull the strings in an attempt to hang onto the perceived power associated with the "big fish in small pond" complex.

Instead of looking at the future of the breed we are tied to twisted notions of rights and wrongs of the past and their alleged effect on the breed today. Instead we should be a forward looking society embracing today's world and the place of the Dexter breed within today's world.

To do so we need to look out not in, look forward not back, recognise the breed we have today and the wonderful advantages it has. We need to create a breed society which welcomes discussions, welcomes criticism, welcomes new members without rejecting the old.

Most of all we need to be rid of the atmosphere which pervades our Society repelling those who could and should be deeply interested in the breed and the Breed Society which oversees its past, present and future.

When and if we achieve that, we have secured the future of the Dexter breed.

Hello Mark, my post was very much a response to Di's post exhorting us not to criticise the Bulletin. which to my mind belongs very much in the same box as others, including DCS council, and various "advisors" who wish to control our society and inhibit free speech in the UK Dexter world. The state of inactivity on the DCS facebook page is another part of this, perhaps you could shed some light on this for us all.

As secretary from Society Holland Dexter I know how hard it is to produce an informative and readable, nice looking newsletter each 4 months. Chris Sparrow is producing a whole bulletin each 3 months. a tribute for her!

About the contence I can't say much about it allready. It's not easy for me to read English, but I try and I mostly understand what's written.

Saffy, I like your contribution about the Harron herd. When I was there in 2010 it became an example for me and my girlfriend, we want to breed Dexters like the Harron Dexters. To speed up that process we have imported a few Harron cows in 2014 with a friend of us. They are doing well and really good looking.

Not a bash at council but an opportunity to let others know that there is an alternative view there is no point in starting a thread when confidentiality issues stifle debate.
