Dexter Cattle For Sale Discussion Board

I may have asked this question before, but I can't find it in the archives so I'll pose it again. The Dexters on the TV the other night made reference to 1200 Dexters but it's not clear whether that was right or not, but I wondered which are the largest herds of pedigree Dexters in the UK?

Do yo mean the largest herd of REGISTERED pedigree Dexters Rob, or just pure bred dexters - there is a large herd in the extreme north of Scotland but I don't think most of them are registered.

I mean registered Dexters - anything else is just a cow.

I suppose the sensible thing would to go through a herdbook and note down all the herds that take up more than one page and cross reference that with the online heardbook, but I'm not sure whether it's worth spending the time on it, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Having nothing better to do on sunday afternoon actually prob only took 15mins the largest herd seems to be the Gorran herd in Cornwall with 228, the Streamfarm herd in Somerset close second with 214 third Boram herd in Gloucester with 166.
Don't think I missed anyone quite a few round 100s few large herds appearing in Ireland now.

Thank you - not as big as I imagined.

Depends on how up to date the online herd book is, except for killed animals the only way to remove animals that have been sold to non members is the december annual herd return.

That's true, and it doesn't include transfers & registrations that haven't been sent into the office and/or paid for yet. Plus some people don't birth notify males, so that could skew it a bit.
