Melton Mowbray rare breed sale 2015

Well the Melton Mowbray rare breed sale schedules are out for this years sale which tales place on 11/12th September 2015. This year there will be NO unhaltered section for dexters so every dexter entry has to be capable of being led on a halter. This decision was taken by the Leicestershire group who run the sale after last years large unhaltered entries affected the overall prices. We hope this years sale gets the support it deserves and the entries are high enough to have a successful sale. I do fear that if the event is not classed as a success by buyers and vendors of dexters then this may be our last attempt at supporting the sale.

Paper entries close on 2nd August and online entries close on 9th August (online entries are also cheaper)

ONLINE ENTRIES CLOSE FOR THIS 9 August 2015.
Mark are there definitely no unhaltered Dexters this year, because the markets own website (Rare breeds section) states "In 2015 we are offering an un-haltered section for cattle for all by the Dexter breed". Should that be the word "but" not "by"?
A few people have asked me the sale position lately, I have sent them to you or Melton for confirmation as I do not know.
Best Wishes Lisa.

Think that should read "but". Other breeds have gone for unhaltered sales but we have withdrawn it this year to see if it improves prices....who knows!! Thanks for flagging it up Lisa.

I think it might improve prices if unhaltered stock was confined to finished birth notified (24 to 30 months) empty heifers (reg papers withheld if fully registered) and steers. Would be useful to weigh so bidders know what they are buying. So there is an opportunity to promote the 'mark' and then you have the halter-trained inspected quality breeding stock.

Quality not quantity, the bull has excellent breeding behind it.

And just to be sure, there are *definitely* no dispersal sales tagged on to the end this time, unlike last year? (I'm still kicking myself over that one)

Good Luck to the buyers and sellers tomorrow. It is sadly very unlikely that I will make it this year, and I do LOVE an auction (probably just as well as I would be too tempted by the useful bloodlines forward!). May the sun shine and the bids flow.
Best Wishes Lisa

Looking forward to hearing how it goes, as I won't be there. I'm not sure the sun should shine though, if it's anything like up here folks are busy on the land in any possible sun-time.
