Just a quick note to let you know of the sad passing of John Garratt husband of Pat [Butterbox]
and Ken Short, husband of Pat [Elmwood].
They will both be missed greatly.
Our commiserations and thoughts go out to both families.

Thank you for letting us know - John & Pat helped me in setting up our herd when they lived up here. I always think of them when I pass by and see the field that 'should' have Dexters in it.

What very sad and shocking news.
John - I did not know very well but have met him several times at Rare breed auctions and shows. He always seemed a very kind and intelligent man.
Ken - Sadly I have not seen him for many years but used to see a lot at shows and Dexter meetings. Ken was a thoroughly decent person with a brilliant and dry sense of humour.
Very best thoughts to both of them, and thoughts and love to Pat Garrett, Pat Short, and Helen.

John Garratt is a very sad loss. John & Pat found my first Dexter for me, and were extremely supportive and generous in donating reference specimens when the thesis was but a twinkle in my eye. The end product would have been very weak without their contribution. John continued contact via email and was very patient with my queries. The York Dexter lines have not been the same since Pat & John moved south. In my early days of showing, John and I would have an informal tussle before going in the ring, with regard to who was going to come last. Naturally, I won! Butterbox Daniel was the sire of my first bull, who put his stamp not only on my herd but those of everyone who borrowed him. Lots of memories of the early meetings of what started as the Yorkshire Dexter Group, which then evolved into the current North of England group.

What dreadful news indeed. My thoughts are with both families at this very sad time.
