Does any one know if he (PLANETREE TALOS M5584 ) is polled?
His paternal Grand sire and Paternal Grand Dam are but there the chain of details stops.

I know that there is a section of the Dexter owners who consider the polled gene with disfavor, so this maybe why there is no mention of polled/hornedness on the records.

That is not to say I can get any Semen out here.
Does anyone here know of any (other) AI bull who is polled?

They are both heterozygous polled, meaning they'll physically look polled (because polled is dominant) but will only pass on the polled gene to 50% of their offspring, so two heterozygous polled animals have the potential, when mated, to produce 25% homozygous polled, 50% heterozygous polled and 25% horned. It would appear, from his pedigree alone, that Talos is horned and therefore carries no polled genes.

However, the first two polled offspring that I have looked at are both from known horned dams, which means he must be heterozygous polled himself and that this has been omitted from the records.

Thank you Rob. I had not thought of checking Progeny to test the hypothesis. I see what you mean of 5/6 polled offspring I saw only one had a polled mother.
Heterozygous is better than not at all.

Any one know of any other AI bulls (in Europe) who are polled?

Hello Lasserade,

I exported a polled bull and heifer to Sabine Hundsdoerfer-Pokupic in Germany in 2009. She now has semen available from Grosensee Arion, a polled son of Burnside Igel. Her email address is SabineHundsdoerfer-Pokupic hundsdoerfer-pokupic@t-online.de I am sure she will try to help you. I have great difficulty getting pictures on this board but you can see some on my Burnside Dexter Cattle facebook page if you scroll way back, or I can email you some if you pm me with your email address.
