Hello Rob

For quite a few years in order to register a dexter bull the society require dna to be tested from the young bull to be registered and from its sire and dam, to prove parentage. They keep this on record. Is that the sort of thing you mean or did I misunderstand...I might have as I am a bit sleep deprived at the moment.

I think the Angus society are doing it for all calves, male, female and even castrates, and I guess maybe even crossbreds, probably something that'll come from the likes of Dovecote, to prove parentage.

In theory, quite a good idea to stop some of the dodgy practices that used to go on. When I took my first heifer to stud, she was put in a field with 2 bulls. When I enquired how would they know which bull was the sire, I was told it would be the one they liked best! Perhaps fortunately, the heifer didn't conceive!
In practice, yet another burdensome thing to do.

In theory a good idea but I don't think owners would want to pay for it.
