How many days / weeks old are they before you are definite that they are polled?

Day one - their heads look & feel different but you've got 27 days to decide.
If it's out of/by at least one homozygous polled parent (ie one that's never produced any polled offspring) you can be sure it's polled as the polled gene is dominant.
I have a bought in bull that's down on the paperwork as polled, but he's got a decent set of horns on him.

I think one of the problems new comers sometimes have problems with is the online registration as it asks if your calf has horns or is polled, I think some people get muddled up with the fact that if their calves are dehorned early they don't have horns any longer. I think it would be interesting to have 3 choices i.e horned, dehorned or polled. just my thoughts on the subject.

Tend to agree with you Ann and have mentioned it to secretary a while back but it perhaps needs several members to write to society
