On the move

Post by robin walker »

The Dexter Cattle Society Scottish Group have now over 60 members , our membership is fully affiliated to the DCS and we would love to meet or hear from anyone in Scotland interested in Dexter
Cattle ?. You do not require to have cattle . Our news letter is dispatched every three months , membership is only £5 .
We have plans to exhibit at both Smallholders events in Scotland 2014.

I have been in talks with one of the most successful and largest butchers in Scotland and with my committee have plans to try and arrange the continuity of supply in Dexter beef to such a butcher or restauranteur's in Scotland . If you are a butcher or a restauranteur become a member and we will inform you of any steers coming available .

The Scottish Group plan has always been to raise the profile of the Dexter .
Keep then , breed them , enjoy them , if not any of these just eat it . We look forwarded to hearing from you

Well here's saying Good for you and the Scottish Group Robin, continuity of supply of a consistent quality of Dexter beef has been an issue every time I have approached or dealt with larger consumers so if you are able to work together within your group to ensure such I am certain that you should fare well.
Maybe some of the groups south of the border will then follow your good example, most Dexter owners are doing well enough in their own small way supplying locally but if a group of like-minded breeders work together it is possible to supply larger consumers / retailers and still achieve a fair and decent price.
Dexter beef has been getting some very good publicity of late and we should all work together to make the most of the current interest and demand in our " Premium Product "

Robin's Chairmanship certainly has seen a surge of activity in the Scottish group, and we should all be grateful for his drive and enthusiasm. If we can pull off a collective marketing scheme it will certainly be a huge advance. Our worst enemy is distance, but we may well manage to overcome that.

Our next newsletter is on the printer and envelopes waiting to be addressed, it is a bumper issue with 32 pages most of which are jammed with info and photos. Our secretary Sue does a great job as Editor gathering articles from Scotland and beyond, with reports on the Irish Gathering in August and USA to broaden the horizons.

Best wishes for Christmas to all our readers,

Duncan
