Does anyone have any tucked away that they would like to sell....I have asked before and got no response but that was a long time ago. I am willing to pay a fair price, especially for some, so even if you only have a couple of straws, if you aren't going to use it let me know.

Just bringing this topic back up.
If anyone has any semen straws by a Woodmagic bull do let me know. I am looking for semen by any Woodmagic bull whatever the age of the straws, just reply to this post or PM me. Even if you only have one or two straws.
There must be some left somewhere, although I have been asking around for several years now!!!

I asked questions as to semen in the UK on another thread but have another one. Do breeders in the UK keep their own semen storage tanks and store straws? Did Mrs Rutherford store the semen from the Bulls she collected?
That brings to mind another question. Mrs Rutherford's estate must contain a treasure trove of Dexter historical documents including letters and photos. Is this being catalogued and protected? I hope she left provisions in her will that whoever it was left to saves everything!

Hello Judy,
Not many of us have our own storage for semen straws here, Beryl didn't keep any at Bunksland but she did have a few straws for her own use which were kept at an AI Centre.
As for her estate, it went to a very nice lady who had done a great deal for Beryl over the years and who genuinely thought alot of her. Sadly she isn't carrying on with the breeding, in fact she is now crossing the few remaining dexters she has, but apart from two very old non breeders she has no "Woodmagics" there any more....Each to their own! Hopefully this lady will have preserved as much as possible?!

Just bringing this back up, I am still looking for Woodmagic semen, please check what you have in your flasks, even if it is just one or two straws I would be delighted to buy them.

I've still been unable to obtain any Woodmagic semen. Surely somebody has got some left somewhere! Please ask your AI man to check in your flasks to see if you have a straw or two left from way back when!!!
Thank you

I am sure you have thought of this . . . . . . .
I am looking for USED straws of early bulls. Often breeders would keep the straw in their files with the AI breeding record. I will take ANY and all straws I can find and will try to return the favor in any possible way.
To the point......I go to the pedigree site and type in the name of the bull and then look through the record of the animals born AI. You might find someone that way Stefanie that has semen stored but is no longer actively breeding. Good luck and send me the used straws!

Hello Judy,
I have some used straws of Woodmagic Hedgehog 4th, obviously not an early bull but I can send them if they are of any use to you.

Well...I have managed to obtain 2 straws - many thanks to the very nice lady that allowed me to have those! I am crossing my fingers that I get a pregnancy from at least one of them!!!
So has anyone else got any? If so as I have said I am more than happy to pay a decent price, also I have just a few Butterbox Morris straws, these aren't for sale but if someone is looking for them and would be willing to swap for some Woodmagic straws that is another possibility. However if you are in the same position as I am - trying to carry on breeding a line for heritage reasons and unable to obtain Butterbox semen any other way let me know.
I am hoping to keep lines of pure Woodmagic bred animals going for another few years and keep this breeding available for anyone to use if they wish through new AI bulls. To this end I put Woodmagic Hedgehog 4th on AI last year, many hundreds of doses have already been sold, mostly abroad.
Going back to this question from Judy back in March - I have re - read the question -
"Did Mrs Rutherford store the semen from the Bulls she collected?"
Sorry I didn't fully answer it, I found out recently that she had quite a quantity of Woodmagic Hedgehog 3rd semen when she died but it was then sold to The DCS.

Glad you have had some success at last finding your Woodmagic straws. I still haven't been able to find any of Redberry Prince.

Have you tried asking abroad, some of the countries where the semen has been exported?

Hello Mark,
Thanks for the suggestion, it is something I had looked into.
I may try to find some abroad if I can't get any/enough here but as I am quite sure there are straws in flasks mouldering away unused...and forgotten about. And since The DCS have a fair amount earmarked to be used at some point for Heritage or Scientific purposes and actually my use, (to breed a future pure Woodmagic blood bull to keep the line going - and which would be put on worldwide AI,) is clearly Heritage usage, I am hoping there will be no need to attempt to import straws back from abroad at this point. I have enquired about re - importing straws and it isn't by any means straightforward.
