There's nothing I like seeing more than a herd of Dexters at summer grass - please share your photos and see how many herds we can get. I'll kick off with a couple of photos of ours almost 'lost' in a field that wasn't cut or grazed last season, due to flooding.

Here's a pic from a few years ago. I show this one because those 5 beasts were on a tiny 1/4 acre field for about 2 months, the grass growth was amazing.
And one with the local power station way in the background...

It looks like you have a bit more altitude Clive - where they are in our pics is less than 7 feet above sea level...

This is a picture i took last week.
Our cows in a 'nature' pasture. I think you call it conservation.
This is the 3rd year: no fertilizer, no manure, only what the cows leave.
Year zero we have mowed all, the year after a little stroke. Now it is what you see.
This is what gouvernment wants: rough pasture mowed by funny cows.
Before this ground brought 8000 kg weat a year, good clay without stones or wet spots.
'
We are thankfull that we can let our little Dexters graze. But for this 2,5 hectare of good land there has to be cut 5 hectares of primeval in South America?!
On the background you see my stable for my fattening pigs. That's my job. My girlfriend Annemiek grows cherry's.

It's OK, this is normal as it's a grazing floodplain & it's naturally like that at this time of year, the problem was last year when it came up in October while the cows were still out - they were grazing there up to Christmas Eve. But it does illustrate why we don't outwinter.
