Got a friend who wants to AI her cattle, doesn't want a bull around. Where can she get Dexter semen from?
I'm sure this has been asked before but can't find it.
Thank you.

Hi Clive,
We now have semen available from Apple Coda the 2012 National Show Champion.
Coda has also achieved the equal highest Linear Classification score of EX94. The breakdown of his scores is:
Body - EX94
Breed Character - EX95
Legs/Feet - EX94
Rump - EX90
I'm just working on an advert for the Bulletin and to ask Mark to put on these pages but semen is available now.
Best way to reach me is on 01572 823356 or 07799340893. Email address is
justmalc@yahoo.co.uk.
There was a photo of Coda in the Bulletin last Autumn or it comes up on Google.
Many thanks,
Malcolm.

Some nice looking bulls there. Thank you Ann & Malcolm I shall pass info on. Spoilt for choice now
. I've cut my herd right down now, so might think this is an avenue for me as well instead of a bull?

Might be...I'd want to find a vet who's confident of >67% success in Dexters if protocol followed to the letter. What success rates are members getting?

These days i only use A.I if I want something different or on heifers that are closely bred to my current bull and occasionally on older cows and normally I get about 95% success rate, but i never serve to early and find I'm more successful if i have the cattle inside ( ie winter) as its easier to pin point exactly when they have come into bulling. I have some friends who only use AI on their herd and they have a very good success rate. My A.I serve is supplied by Genus and I do think that having a good technician is probably a plus.
With the worry of TB these days it is a safe route to obtain new blood lines and my current bull is by AI as is his mother.

I have just decided to release some semen taken on farm from Seamer Supreme Ricard EX94.
He was a wonderful bull and a lot of his daughters are retained in my herd and winning in the showring. See my ad in the Ads page. £15 per straw plus handling costs

I have not used AI for many years, but when I did never had much different from 30% conception rate. This despite having a full time AI man on the island, who made every effort to get to a cow at the time requested. Maybe I am no good at heat detection, but even some I synchronised got the same response. Burnside Alison, a daughter of Apple Joe, would be the last one - born in 2001, took 6 straws to get her and one bull calf.

I have to say my experiences with AI have been very different to Duncan's although I also brought 4 straws of apple Joe and the end result was one very nice heifer calf. Apart from this rather unfortunate occasion I have had very good results. My currant bull is by AI. If you don't have a steer running around with your cows the bovine beacons are a very good indicators of the right time to get the AI man. I have a batch of heifers related to my bull to AI so hopefully my luck will continue to hold.
