My goodness. Still going!!
Beryl sent me a little book one Xmas called Miss Lloyd Remembers. Miss Lloyd was at that time 104 yo.
She had had the Pentre Hobyn herd I think, without checking. I could be wrong about that.
Beryl had recently spoken to Miss Lloyd on the phone, said she thought the older lady must have been a bit hard of hearing!!!

"Miss Lloyd remembers" is an autobiography written when Miss Lloyd was 103 and contains details of her Pentre Hobyn herd. The books were available fron the Dexter Cattle Society - don't know if still available.

I had heard of Miss Lloyd but did not realise she was still alive and well when her book came out. Beryl Rutherford did manage to renew contact with Miss Lloyd about that time, (2007) having lost contact for many years. Beryl says in her book "Miss Lloyd's herd was also nearby, and I managed to get work relief milking there. She had a beautiful herd, with small neat animals, carrying plenty of beef, and again milking well"
I was able to send Miss Lloyd a copy of Beryl's book, and it was good to know that the old contacts had been renewed.
The passion with which they cared for their cattle is evident in both these lives - "Then I too fell in love - with a Dexter cow" - a quote from Miss Lloyd's book. The Dexters are only a small part of her book, it is a fascinating read and I would commend it to anyone. So good to hear that the author is still going strong.

There are 3 copies of Miss Lloyd's book on Amazon at the moment. Search in Books for "Miss Lloyd Remembers". You can also get Beryl Rutherford's "My Love Affair With The Dexter" on Amazon, and I think Ted Neal's "The Life And Times Of Dexters" is there too.

Oh good - tks for that Duncan - Ive got a copy - just found it a couple of hours ago. Quite a delightful read. there are a few folk in Australia who would be interested. So will let them know. She, like Beryl (must have been the times they lived in) were amazing, strong Ladies - we need a few like those ladies of yore - with their backbone - around now to stop the rot!
