Normally I sell the boys before they reach meat weight and so have absolutely no idea what im doing. I decided this year that I was going to run the steer on and try produce some dexter meat for family and friends. I know its mainly on weight that you send them off, however I was just wondering what age roughly the shorts reach a meat weight and what actual weight you would suggest to send them?

Thank you

Between 24 & 30 months on all grass feeding. I spring calve so that they finish after a second summer on grass. Shorts tend to finish quicker than non-shorts.

Brilliant mine live out all year round but calves get fed up to 10 months on hard feed as well and then depending on what weather is doing they get silage. I always presumed the non shorts would finish quicker stupidy shows what I know :)
Thank you for your response

Apologies for my response perhaps not being as lucid as usual - I was using the forum on my telephone.
