Hello Gee Tee,
There were 33 Dexters Catalogued for Newark (9 Heifers Under 18Mths, 9 Heifers Over 18 Mths, 8 Wet/Dry Cows, and 7 Bulls). I did not physically count them on the day so don't know if they all turned up, but the Marquee we shared with the Highland Breed looked impressively full.
As Colin says the new T.B Regulations do not come into effect yet so Newark would not be affected this year.
There was much discussion of T.B within the Lines of all the breeds. The general feeling can be summed up as 1. Bullshit Governments (past, present and future!) , 2. Bullshit T.B Schemes what ever testing parish you are in, 3. Most people will not be able to afford to pre movement test for specific shows, especially one day shows. This will kill off alot of the smaller shows and also distort Breed Society Show Results, i.e the " Best" Show Cow/Bull in the country may be the only one entered!!!
These were just the sober comments.......
It was also very noticable the general lack of spending around the showground amongst the general public - alot of fed up trade stands/ craft stands/ food vendors.
On a brighter note it was great to see everyone again and have a good talk and laugh. Shows are more than just showing.
Best Wishes
Lisa Bell

How are these new rules applied, is it based on the testing regime in the home holding, or the show site, or both?
And how do you go about finding the status of a showground?

Hi Colin, Yes I was a bit premature about pre-movment tests I'll put it down to age.
Hi Lisa the numbers look to be up on last year and the classes were very even which makes a better compition all round.Your comment on the show in general reflect on a downward trend over the last few years as organisers accept more and more trade and catering vendors to cover thier cost, and the general paying public having less and less to spend,I agree that if things stay as they are yes some of the smaller show will suffer.
