At about 6pm tonight we had our first heifer calf arrive safe and unassisted to Woodmagic Moorhen and we are still smiling
.
As soon as I have found the instruction for photo uploading I will post some of her.
Really chuffed!
Welcome to Blackmagic Dexters!

Beryl's M family descends from the two Balksbury Rosemary daughters Balksbury Rosemary 2nd and Woodmagic Merlin. The P family descend from Woodmagic Peewit, daughter of Ynyshir Peach Blossom. The S family descends from Woodmagic Sprosser, daughter of Doesmead Pinstripe. The Z family descending from Exeter Zephyr was represented in the Woodmagic herd through the one bull Woodmagic March Hare 2nd only but by no female line in Beryl's later years.
We name by national year letter so when someone asks me how old that cow is I only have to count on my fingers. Easy! When our association was first formed they began with the letter A. The last letter in that sequence was H then we switched to fall into place with the national year letter, which at that time was R. The national number used by all breeds is the tattoo letter we use in the left ear before the herd calving number. This year it is H.
We personally also use some method of identifying the family. ie Willow has a son & 2 daughters here currently. They are Fellow, Estelle & Giselle. Breeze's dam is Zephyr and her daughter is Gale. etc. It could just as well have been Glee, to pick up the double EE. It doesn't matter to anyone else so as long as Graham & I & the kids know the system we can always work it out. (I have no issue with human names, just a bit hesitant to use names of anybody I know)

We had our first Dexter calf this week, he is so cute.Within 1/2 hour he had his first feed and was trying to run around the pen. Our Hereford and limmis are never that keen and we usually have to help them suckle. They say the best things come in little packages!!
