I have heard that under licence, in certain circumstances, these animals can be given permission to move holdings. Has anyone any experience with this?

With regards to Pre 1996 animals, I was under the impression that they could move between holdings, subject to pre-movement TB test but when the time comes for them to be culled they cannot enter the food chain i.e. as over 30 month cattle can. They would need to be killed and disposed of by the knacker man and you would have to pay to have the carcass incinerated (£70 - £100). I would suggest you get a definitive answer from the The British Cattle Movement Service.

I have one cow in this category. I checked with BCMS and she is not allowed to leave the holding to join the rest of the herd on a summer grazing link that has now been in place for years.
