There has been a lot of adverse publicity in the farming press about Chinese Lanterns. They have caused fires in standing corn when they have come down still alight and death in farm animals when they have come down in mowing grass and have been inadvertently baled up in the forage.
We live near a large housing estate on the edge of Birmingham so I knew it would not be long before we would find one. Sure enough the first one turned up this morning in a field we use for silage. No damage was done this time, the offending plastic hoop, wire and paper was quickly disposed of, I have a horrible feeling that this could be the first of many.
