Another good plug for the breed tonight by Monty Don on 'My Dream Farm' Ch 4 8pm. Unlike the Ramsey programme it was good to hear a farmer talking up the breed sensibly.

Shame the programme stated that you should not cross non-short with short, which isn't true. Apart from that they looked like the ideal breed for the family.

Yup I was horrified about that - thought it was all a bit shallow, and felt sorry for the Dexter lady - poor return for all her work.
Re the short/long comment - u thunk BBC could at least get that right!!!

Well see, that's probably all Dutch to Aussie visitors in UK, because we don't have a Channel 4 over here that I know of.
A public short/non-short slip-up just goes to show we need to be careful when explaining the situation to first time Dexter buyers. OK for us who have grown with it, but it must be confiusing for some.
There was an out-cry years ago when our first life-style TV host, Don Burke, a Dexter breeder himself, went to air on Burke's Backyard with the chondro issue, but that program probably sold more Dexters rather than turn people off them.

The presenter of My Dream Farm is Monty Don who also presents Gardening World on the BBC. He really should know better.
The people last week live about 2 miles from me and I know that the show went to look at some local Dexters so I am not quite sure why they filmed a herd in Buckinghamshire some 100 or more miles away.

Nick, Have they still got Dexters, I thought he didnt seem too keen to make the decission to buy them in the programme. Monty Dons herd looked a nice bunch though.

I don't know to be honest - I don't know them but they went to see some cows at Broadstone near Trellech where my bull Brambledel Prince of Thorns was on loan so I was hoping to see him on TV but they didn't show any of that.
I might go and have a look on the weekend and see if can see any. I have an idea where they are.

Hi
I had to go out on the night that 'my dream farm' was aired and i forgot to put it on video. Does anyone know if it is to be repeated or anyone know of a link i could watch it by. We have watched all the other episodes so typical the one we miss is the one with dexters in.

Go to the Channel 4 website and then type in Dream Farm and is should show all the episodes. Just click on the one with last weeks date and you should be able to watch it straight away.

Love to see regular updates on this chap n his family if they do still have the dexters .
N would love to know what happens to the pigs - bearing in mind I will be leaving the UK to head home after crufts - so relying on other posters to keep us Aussies etc updated.

I did a drive by this morning and there were at
least 2 Dexters on their ground and quite a number
of sheep. Couldn't see any pigs.
