I don't know if anyone else heard the plug for Dexter beef this morning on Sarah Kennedy's Show on Radio 2. Her favourite place in England is North Northumberland so I thought perhaps I should send her some of my Dexter beef reared in North Northumberland. The media plugs obviously make a difference as the butcher who sells my beef said someone came in to his shop in Wooler last week and bought all the Dexter beef he had to take down to a restaurant in London. Only wish I had more ready to go ..

That's briiliant Joey. Excellent marketing and it'll have a snow-ball effect that'll benefit everyone and the breed. Would like to listen to it. Do you know about where the plug is in the program? Even if roughly.

It was between 7 and 7.30am, we were bedding out calves, she refereed to a newspaper article i think in the observer that set dexter at the best in beef.

Last Saturday's Times magazine had 50 Chefs, 50 Dishes and a chef called John Torode of Smiths of Smithfield was one of the contributors. His recommended recipe was Rib of Beef with Mustard Crust.
I quote....
"The best roast beef in the world is a British fore rib, preferably from a rare-breed Dexter heifer, hung for 28 days."

I see you found it. Yes it was a good plug - my husband can't stand listening to Sarah Kennedy as he says she's full of waffle but he has partly come round to her as she's always plugging Northumberland and has now plugged Dexter beef!

Just bought John Torode's 'Beef and other bovine matters' book where he has a section called 'The Breeds'.

Under Dexter he has written "Fast becoming the hobby farm choice, Dexters are small bodied (tiny, really, in the land of big beasts) but they are calm and easy to look after. They are notoriously bad for milk but give truly delicious beef. A well-grown, well-slaughtered, well hung piece of Dexter beef will be sweet and smoky - one of my very favourites. Oh, and if you want to look out for one, they are black, sometimes with a tiny flash of white on the face."

Think Dexters have been sold short on the milk side!

It's a big quote, sorry! It is an interesting book and funny in places.
