Just a quick question to save me trawling through pages of blurb on theBCMS wesite! Can I move cattle from our holding to a field that does not have a holding number on it? There have been no other livestock in the field apart from horses. If anyone knows a yes or no answer to this question I would be most grateful, if not I may have to phone BCMS and that does not appeal!

Unfortunately you will need to phone BCMS. I have always found them extremely civil and helpful. You will need to set up a grazing link to your new field, so BCMS have a record that you have stock there, but you do not need to report every movement to and from it. You will need to do this before putting cattle there in the first place. It's very easy to set up such a grazing link. I do it for my summer keep & some conservation grazing in the autumn.

Thank you Louise, I will get on with this before moving the heifer into the field.
