Is his coat being rubbed off at the base of his neck ? If he is using a ring feeder it could be the bars. In which case it will grow back once he's turned out again.

Some bulls do rub a lot which I suppose is why they keep lifting gates off the hinges. I have never heard why they rub and cows don't. You could treat him for lice and mites with a pour-on or powder etc, which is what we do when they are inside in the winter. Even the cows tend to get bald patches sometimes when indoors.

One of my bulls lost some of his coat one winter whilst inside, mainly down his spine I did give him an extra dose of pour on but am unsure as to whether this helped or not. I did brush him regularly to take the loose hair out and encourage new growth. As soon as he was let out in spring his coat came back no problem, I have never had the same problem with cows.
A bull that I hired in a couple of times was a magnet for flies, cows had very few but at times he seemed alive with them and I was kept busy putting repelant on him. Maybe the two issues are male things, proving that Man-Flu is real!

I've got four bulls, 3 don't rub much at all, and one rubs on anything he can find, inside or outside. Fences, gates, trees, me!!! I've now put rubbing posts in any fields without trees for him otherwise my fences wouldn't last very long. In fact my icon is a picture of the culprit.
