Hi - does anyone use this board via a dial up telephone connection rather than broadband please? If so, how do you do it? Do you use OnSpeed or other software to speed up the connection and how well does it work? THere are people without broadband who might like to gain access / contribute but can't.

Hello Clive,
I use dial up mostly through the day on a lap top in the surgery - the main surgery computers are on broadband for communication between Dunoon and Rothesay surgeries but I keep most online stuff away from them in case of any viruses and such bothers. I just use ordinary dial up and Windows Internet Explorers, version 7 I think. It does take a long time to get pictures, and I am best to wait till home in evening and use broadband there to view. I am on dial up at moment and don't see why this would be a barrier to contributing text post. I have used it for photos it just needs a bit of patience.

Until a few weeks ago, when the machine died, I accessed this forum using Internet Explorer 4/Windows95 on pay as you go dial up connection. Text fine, photos a real pain. Waited to view those from machine at work.

I used to be on telephone connection, but it meant I limited access because of the cost. In fact, although I used to confine myself to spending only a few minutes occasionally and ensured my e-mails were ready before I connected to send, it still cost me a lot more than it does today when I will happily put in hours on occasion using Broadband which costs me £14.50 a month.

Assuming that most visitors to this site possibly live in more isolated rural locations does anyone use mobile broadband through a mobile phone companies usb modem?
If so is the service reliable.

I am so rural I cannot use a mobile inside my farm gate.
