I've been waiting for someone else to raise this topic, but here goes. It's a huge volume and therefore inevitable that small sins of omission and commission would creep in. However, I do confess to being somewhat aggrieved that my herd is down as "no herd return received" when I know full well it was both sent and received, with the cheque for my annual sub. Was it just my return that got mislaid or is it a general problem? I know one other herd is in a similar position. Mine was a paper return, while the other was done electronically.

My herd too is not listed because of no herd return received. But I did my herd return online, as I was requested to do to save time, money and paper, and I did it very carefully and also created an Excel file at the time of the differences between my herd and grassroots in minute detail. The grassroots database has my herd down to perfection whereas the Herd Book doesn't have my herd in it. It looks like I have 25 Dexters, but I have 120 and rising fast.

My herd book arrived last week. You have to order it in January on the form which has your herd return & subscription details on. So, for me to receive my copy of the herd book, the herd return with the herd book order must have been received!

I've just had a look at the online herdbook and found no sign of my birth notified steers. Should they be here?

When you look for steers it depends how you look as to whether you see them. If I look for mine, say, using the name "Broomcroft" as the search criteria in the name field, you'll only see animals with that name, but many without names have been entered also without the Broomcroft prefix either, or with no name at all (don't know why because all mine are named Broomcroft then a number or a name).

If instead, say you use the tag number as the criteria and enter 310819 (our defra number), you'll see all the Broomcroft animals with and without names. BUT, until a few months ago you'll also NOT see one animal where the 310819 had been entered wrongly so I had to get it altered. There are other ways of searching such as using the member number etc.

Can you see your steers now Peter?
