When we have our new council is it worth approaching the people who test for the bulldog gene about getting a special price for testing all dexters starting with the bulls so that we know every animal in the breed status as it seems alot of us guess? The society could perhaps subsidise this as alot of money was spent on the genetics project yet not sure of the benefits

Its certainly an idea which is well worth consideration as currently when looking at pedigrees of animals there is no way to know if the animal is short or non short, and a much better way to use the members money than the genetic project as I still can't really see what benefit to the ordinary member that will bring.

In NZ we've made DNA profiling mandatory for all new bulls being registered and most breeders get them tested for Chondrodysplasia at the same time. It sure makes mating decisions a lot easier.

Its now mandatory for all new bulls here and eventually we will have a herd book of DNA tested bulls but this will take time so Im advocating we test all the older bulls at least. Some breeders have chosen to test themselves, I would not use any bull with out knowing
