Congratulations! Girl or a boy?
For how long is there a risk for milk fever? It can occur a few days before as well as a few days after calving, can´t it?

Hello Anna,
It is a heifer calf. I believe most of the danger of Milk Fever is in the few hours before and the 12 hours after calving.

Anyone know if Reds are more prone to mineral imbalances? I'm offering our herd a big tub of magnesium lick this year, in the hope that I can't forstall some of the stange behaviour that a couple of the heifers had last year. Plus our red heifer didn't seem to dilate properly. Hope she's better this year.

Three weeks old tomorrow - time does fly!
We are halter training her at the moment - at least in theory, not much noticable improvement as yet.

Good luck at Monmouth, its a lovely show and the weather forcast is better than Chepstow show days,
we may see you at Usk, alas not showing as we are outside the accepted area,
Your little girl is beautiful, I see that she has a bit of white on the udder, I am reliably informed that this indicates a good milker.
