BT Vaccination movement restriction 60 day - What can be done?

I have spoken to Trading Standards as we had hoped to go to a particular Show.

There is one way around the 60 day rule if you are desperate - you can get the vet to do a blood test after 30 days. Obviously it needs to be clear and there is the extra expense. I don't know if we will go to these lengths, it is a bit extreme and I am not sure how long the results would take.

Could you explain this rule?

I am presuming that the show you wish to attend is outside the Protection Zone?

Our neighbours tested their cattle for BT in February prior to selling through Cirencester market. They were clear & the results came back quickly...possibly four days or less? Check with your vet he will be able to give you some idea.

Unvaccinated animals can be moved within your own zone as long as you are complying with any other rules that there may be.

Once vaccinated but the 60 days are yet not up you cannot move them outside your own zone, unless after 30 days you have a blood test done and get a clear result.

I think that is correct but I wouldn't want to lead anyone astray - so please check with your own Local Trading Standards Office.

Thanks - that is what I thought.

You could come to Usk Show. Unfortunately we have lost
the Dexter classes and will be competing with other
native breeds but there are still specials for Dexters.

I think I will leave vaccination until later in the year as most
of my cows are out on grass keep in a very tricky place
to get them and to have to do it twice in 3 weeks will
be a pain.

We are a tad new to this and hoping to bring our 12 month old bull. Also our young cows don't lead and we don't have the time or energy to fight them!!! However we have a rather nice old dun cow that should calve about the right time, if her udder still looks nice and even when she calves is it worth bringing and older cow like her? Will it be a big class do you think?

Well entry to the livestock classes is restricted to those who
farm or live in the boundaries of the old county of
Monmouthshire/Gwent so numbers are never big and it
is not too serious a show.

We of course had no livestock last year and in 2006 there
was only one other Dexter exhibitor other than myself.

There are likely to be only a few entries in the Native
Breed classes and there is a cup for Best Dexter in
those classes.

It would be great to see you there. I am likely to take
just my bull so the more Dexters the better. For a few
years, after the Powells and Parker-Morgans stopped
showing, it was just me there.
