hi everyone,

just a question, i have been trying to find a couple of good quality short dexters and as i don't want to travel hundreds of miles to collect i have been looking locally and to no avail. Has anyone else in the south west had the same trouble? If you wanted non-short there is several but as for short dexters they seem to be non existant.

If anyone can help or explain why the shortage please get in touch

I presume you are talking of the carrier animals. There are plenty of carrier type Dexters bred in the south west, but those ‘short leg’ animals only produce ‘short leg’ calves half the time, and their owners want to sell the unwanted long leg heifer calves, and keep the ‘short leg’ for their own replacements. Having bought your two ‘short leg’ heifers you may have to wait several years to get a ‘short leg’ calf out of them, since ratios only work out over a long period of time.
