Chris and I are wondering if there is a Dexter Group in our area, when we first joined we did make some enquiries and were told that there was one but it was folding through lack of interest.

We are close to Abergavenny and Monmouth but are willing to go to wherever the nearest group is still being held.

So come on let us know where your group is please!

It isn't looking good!

If you are reading this and you belong to a Dexter Group that you think may be within a reasonable driving distance for us please post to let us know.

HI Saffy

We are part of the Cornwall group, and we know that there is an active group in Devon which is of course closer to you, perhaps someone could confirm the existence of a group in Gloucestershire which could be really close for you.

Shame there is so few replies.

Saffy,

There is a list of the groups in the bulletin, which you have probably consulted already.

Yes I have looked in the most recent one Fiona and there wasn't a particularly local one, I wasn't sure if they were the only groups or just the ones with something to say at the time?

I take it you are saying they are the only groups, so we will see which is easiest to get to and if they mind people from "out of area".

Thanks

Hi Saffy, Do you know someone in the Gwent group (which I think is the one folding)Or could some one let you know who was the last Chairman and then you might be able to find other members who didn't want it to fold, or perhaps you could inspire them with your enthusiasm and they restart. We are in West Wales which is a bit of a trek but we have people come from near llandovery I think. Good Luck in your search.

Thanks Rob, You are actually right on the mark this is partly what my thread is about, I was hoping local people with Dexters would be suitably horrified at the demise of the group and it would keep going!!! Ha ha

It is really sad that there just isn't the interest around here.

Also that someone would say - "here we are" - no luck though.

We will go to whichever turns out to be our nearest and will have us Rob! Even if it means just pitching up once in a blue moon.

Saffy....Midland Group takes members from as far away as North Shropshire - Leics - Powys - Forest of Dean - Wiltshire - Buckinghamshire.

You would probably be within just over 2 hours travelling from some of our venues.

In November 2007 we travelled up north to visit Martyn & Caroline Ryder at Pike End Farm (day visit). In April Clive & Caroline Taylor at Broomcroft Farm near Shrewsbury hosted our AGM. We're off to Buckinghamshire in September for an in-house workshop. Our AGM in April 2009 is being hosted by Rob & I just outside Moreton in Marsh.....we often travel to your neck of the woods & it takes roughly two hours.

Give it some thought, you would be more than welcome to join.

Bill and I belong to the Midland group, we cant get to their meetings, but the newsletter on its own is worth the membership fee, they also have a herd competition every other year, so you can show your Dexters without the hassle of red tape,( we live in the Forest of Dean).Sue Osborne,Castlemears Dexters

You can get to us in around 2 to 2.5 depending on the tourists on the road. We might not have such eminent members as Rob and Alison Kirk etc but we meet in a much more beautiful area than the Midlands. (joke). Only a small group of enthusiastic people but we are friendly and don't bite. :D

As the eminent Alison has mentioned that the Midland AGM was at our place, I would like to point out to any Midlands members, that in the newsletter afterwards, it said we served Dexter Beef. Just in case you hear that our beef tastes funny, it was lamb . It's one of Caroline's best recipe and it's yummy, done Morocan style with chickpeas. The Midland Group scoffed the lot, so they obviously liked it, mind you most of them will eat anything. One person had thirds! :D
