I have had two bull calves castrated at approx. twelve months old. The vet has told me that they will not inseminate the females after six weeks. Is this correct does anyone know? I am trying to prevent some young heifers from becoming pregnant, and don't want to put them at risk, but I have only a limited amount of grazing available.

That is what the my vet told me when I did exactly the same at the same age to 6 bulls at once.

Sounds right. The Roman agronomists were aware that young bulls castrated for oxen were still fertile for a few weeks after the operation.
