In New Zealand there was a programme on climate change on tv and they talked about cattle being farmed in Greenland for the first time. A man had 16 cattle and they looked like Dexters black, horned and quite small. Can anyone confirm this?

We watched the same program, and commented that if not Dexter, they could possibly have been L'Herens.

Is the program available on the web anywhere? So we can all have a look.

Sorry, I can't remember what it was on. Perhaps nz dexters can help. May have been ABC TV Foreign Correspondent or Four Corners, about global warming and the Greenland ice sheets.

Well, this topic intrigued me. So, I chased one of my colleagues who works in the North Atlantic. He couldn't help but passed me on to the Zoology Dept of NABO (yes B for Biocultural), who can't actually help either but the boss is beating jungle drums & sending post-grads scurrying to feed me data on the archaeological cattle bones from Greenland. This internet thing really is quite amazing! I will let you know when more info arrives.
Certainly the Norse settlers of Greenland had Dexter size cattle & the NABO team are interested in finding where the ancestral stock came from.

That is fascinating; please do keep us posted. I am sure the little Celtic cow has a much longer history than the ‘experts’ credit it with..
