Have heard of someone local who is looking for a bull to run with highland cows.
I understand they have had difficuly calving in the past, presumably with AI continental type Bull, and are looking for a smaller bull.
Has anyone used a dexter bull on highland cattle, and if so with what kind of results.
Our lad is not needed till next may, so was thinking of offering his services.

Steve, although I have no experience of this cross I imagine it would produce some cracking beef.
Martin. Medway Valley Dexters.

I have seen Dexter/Highland crosses and they are super! A little earlier maturing than Highland, also are extremely pretty.

Just agreeing with Di, we bought three Highlands from Andrew Sheppy about ten years ago, crossed with our Dexter bull they produced "teddy bear" calves which grew on to good beefy animals resembling shaggy Dexters, we have a photo of them somewhere, will try to put it on this site Sue and Bill Osborne,

My goodness, I hope my husband doesn't see this. He really likes Highland cattle and the thought of getting mini ones would thrill him to bits. I can't see him wanting to eat them though if they look like teddy bears. :p

My neighbour uses a Highland bull on his Dexter cows but too soon to take any in and sample the meat. There are a lot of Highland cattle on Vancouver Island and if I couldn't get a Dexter bull, they would be my next choice (Duncan has scared me off of our "Canadian" angus!).
