Some secrets shouldn't be kept! Beryl may love surprises, but fortunately we have been approached in advance, about a get-together here before Xmas.
I am half tempted to buy single-use golloshes for our guests, as we are an accredited Johnes-free herd to MN3 level and an audited MAP (meat assurance) herd, but we are really looking forward to the visit. How to avoid offending anyone?
The question Australians are asking at the moment is how did the equine influenza virus get into the country, and how did it then get out of quarantine? It is concerning to learn that the virus was taken further afield by a farrier. No races & no police horses for APEC security are just the beginning of the fallout. The implications are overwhelming, and could just as easily have been a cattle virus.

But note that when money is involved, they are lifting the 'no-movement' order very soon in most states, so that racing can continue. ??? That really got me. :(

Inger - agreed - but not sure NZ can sound 'virtuous'. In terms of potentially bolting the stable door a bit late - internal bio security in NZ is almost non existent (though external controls are very good). Stock vehicles aren't washed down after movement, boot washing/disinfecting almost never happens etc etc
