Just had three cows calve: 1st 16 yr old and we were too late to save the breech heifer.... very sad. Went to neighbour for replacement - he is a 5 week old Angus X. Peeweet's udder is the lowest in the business, especially when full and his legs ....!
He hated his loin cloth and we plastered him in gunge - she mewed to him immediately and overnight he didn't find the bar.
Very hungry in the morning so was quick to learn and now loves his Mummy.
3 days later a small heifer calved - was heavy going so put halter on her (in field) and tried to help. Not strong enough so my right hand man came armed with a jack - all well, a lovely heifer.
Today a second calver roared round the field stopped in the middle, dropped the calf in quick time - a bull. Perfect!
All girls have enjoyed their reward of a bit o feed
Got a crossbred heifer to go then nothing for 2 months. Phew!
Son getting married on Saturday - otherwise, nothing happening in our lives at the moment
Jo - fairly tired!
