Leicestershire show took place yesterday, Sun and bank holiday Monday. There was a steady dexter turnout, 26 ish i think, its always a tricky show getting the cattle in the right condition that early in the year.
Anyway, the question is, do i divulge the result to the internet community. When i did the DCS site and put up the results as the year progressed, it was questioned as to wheter it was a good idea. That was the official society site of course, but what of this private site, the people who show could get the results posted the next day, well who won champion and reserve anyway. Is this a good idea or not?
Debate please!!

Hi Mark

I am not in the UK so tend not to know which shows are which, but for people who are out there making the effort to show - exhibiting the animals to the public (which hopefully benefits the breed as a whole) surely recognition of their success is not a bad thing?

As someone who uses UK bull semen I would love to see Sire & Dam info on the results as well, also whether they are chondrodysplasia carriers or not - reaching a bit here - in an ideal world photo of everything would be great, pedigree, stats, whole page ad, book...... how much work do you want to do?

Anyway - I like to see results! Even though they are not the be all and end all of breeding, and other considerations needed to be taken into account, when I am choosing a bull for AI I will compare progeny results for different bulls - where possible.

I am not sure i put my point across right, what i meant is that members of the site post the results and comments as they come across them during the season, on this board. I have no time to set up a results section, plus the results would have to be correct in fact.
I know there is only a small percentage of the membership that do show, and from a personal point of view it would be nice to see who and what was winning up and down the country in a casual unofficial sort of way.

I am a bit baffled by the notion that it might not be a good idea to publish show results. As long as they were posted correctly why not?

Posting comments on the results might be another matter, certainly plenty room for causing contention there. The judge's opinion on the day is the one that matters.

Good idea Mark it would be nice to see all the class winners not just the champion and reserve so go for it put leics results up by adding all the class winners I can not see how that is competing with D C S site.

I think it is a good idea to have show results, it may even help persaude people to show themselves. Although it is on the D C S, I cannot imagine them taking offence to it being listed here too.

I think its a great idea, I always scan the farmers gardian to see who has won, but it would be nice to have the names of the animals, owners and judge, and show praphs we could all put our local show wins on.

Ann :) :)

I think it would be wiser to avoid duplication. I think it is far better that this site continues to supply a demand that the official site doesn’t fill, rather than competing, and it would be very unfortunate if comments on the show results ensued.

Beryl, those were my thoughts, i think i would have to edit the posts to remove any adverse comments and i dont think that is a great idea. I havent had to do any editing or censoring yet.
