We had our girls up for sale at the going rate, I am sad to say that people were interested in them, but not at those prices. £200 for a friendly, handlable yearling heifer is pretty fair according to the cattle for sale pages. People pay more than that for sheep for heavens sake. Apparantly my six year old cow is nearly over the hill !!! How on earth will this breed progress if that is the attitude out there. I am grateful that they were not snapped up at the asking price as soon as they went up for sale as it was part of the reason that my husband has declined the move to France and possibly the promotion prospects to stay here. He has several things in the pipeline so to speak and I am so so so happy, in fact we all are. I supported his choice and now I reap the rewards. Our attitude has changed to the girls over these last months, we are going to put our heifer to meat in a few months time, something I never dreamt of doing before. We can only keep certain numbers, so what the hell, she could be breed but i think we will enjoy eating her more. We aim to kill one a year from here on in. Exciting times ahead......

I think it needs to be advertised more widely that Dexters (like many of the old breeds) are very long lived. Six years old is just coming into her prime.

There's a cow of around that age in NZ which is still collecting championship ribbons at the North Island shows. Eventually she may be over taken by her daughter born last year. A nice heifer, with good potential.

I have been told by someone recently that there is a gentleman out there trying to buy loads of Dexters, pedigree and non-reg, without viewing them and offering low prices. Cheques have bounced................be warned!

LAst year I was approached by someone who had access to this site (may have simply picked up information) and wanted to buy Breoch Ptarmigan. Happy to pay the asking price etc. I emailed to ask when he would like to see the bull and also where would Ptarmy be going? where based and how many cattle? He never answered any questions, simply reiterated his desire to buy. I ended the 'conversation' as I was not prepared to sell the bull to just anyone.....rather eat him! Must find out how he's doing!

Unfortunately, like all things on the net, seller beware.
I cant beleive some of the cons people get up to.
If someone wants to buy without seeing then alarm bells have to start to sound, be fair, it cant be right can it!
Pay up front, cash the cheque, let it clear, despatch the animal, end of story.
