I am too embarrassed to ask the dairy famer next door but I am concerned for my heifer. She is 19 months old and with a bull for the first time. She is in heat and this morning her rear is really looking red, sore and a bit swollen but no blood, just some white mucus. I am concerned also about fly strike. As she is red, her pale skin makes this really show up

Is this normal?? Should I be concerned and if so, what do I watch for? Otherwise she looks fine and adores Buddy, the bull. I caught the two of them sleeping together in a corner of the paddock this morning. Thanks for your help with this.

Hi Kathy,
...her 'condition' sounds fairly normal to me... as for the flys *shrug* have never had any problems with them here with any of my females at mating time.

All the best
Kathleen
